Surely, Bards today are poets, musicians, storytellers and keepers of community lore, however, they are much more than mere performers or writers. Bards carry the responsibility of creating works which reflect the sacredness of all life, works which teach, inspire and heal. They are first and foremost visionaries, healers, and magicians.
Word, sound, and image carry immense power to help or harm. Bards are conscious crafters of these things, dedicated to uplifting and expanding the consciousness of the People. The Bardic Path is a servants path. Servant to the Great Mystery, to the Living Earth, to the People (all living things) and to the Inspiration which powers them.
Bards have a responsibility to use their talents and power with discernment. They may have the opportunity to create works just for money, just to sell, but what then, is the true impact of this work? Is it really authentic? Is there any sacredness in that? It is for every Bard to decide for themselves, what the truth is. The most important thing to know is that there is purity in one's intent to create from an elevated and expanded consciousness. The Bardic Path is not about material profit (though it does not exclude such prosperity), it is about unconditionally transmitting the blessings of the Mystery to others through the creative and expressive gifts one has been graced with. Bards have great power and with that, great responsibility. It is not a path taken lightly.
